What is the difference between Mobile Passport and Mobile Passport Control (MPC)?

Mobile Passport is the app, itself, and can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store. Travelers may use the app to digitally submit passport and customs declaration information to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (U.S. CBP) on their mobile device, eliminating the need for shared touchpoints, such as paper forms and kiosks. The app does not require pre-approval and is officially authorized by CBP.

Mobile Passport Control is the process operated by CBP, at the port of entry. For instance, when members approach the Federal Inspection Service (FIS) area, they should look for signs for “Mobile Passport Control” or “MPC”, where they will find designated lanes for those who have received a digital QR code receipt(s) on the app.
